General Administration is a core operational unit of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) responsible for providing the foundational support services that enable the Secretariat and its departments to function effectively at the national level. As the organisational backbone of the Secretariat, this unit ensures that administrative systems are managed with integrity, efficiency, and accountability in service of the Church’s mission.
The key functional responsibilities of the General Administration unit include the following:
- Finance and Budget Management
This team oversees financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and reporting for the Secretariat. It ensures prudent stewardship of resources, adherence to approved budgets, and compliance with established financial regulations and best practices. - Human Resources and Personnel Management
General Administration manages the recruitment, onboarding, development, welfare, performance appraisal, and overall personnel administration for CSN staff. This includes both ecclesiastical and lay personnel, ensuring that human resource policies reflect Catholic values and organisational needs. - Facilities Management and Maintenance
The unit is responsible for the maintenance, security, and upkeep of all Secretariat properties and facilities. It ensures that the physical infrastructure supports a safe, functional, and welcoming working environment for staff and guests. - Procurement and Logistical Planning
Centralised procurement services are provided for goods and services needed across the Secretariat. In addition, the unit coordinates logistical planning and support for national episcopal events, meetings, conferences, and other large-scale Church functions, ensuring that all operational requirements are met efficiently. - Administrative Coordination
General Administration provides cross-departmental coordination and support to promote organisational coherence and operational continuity. This includes managing internal workflows, facilitating inter-departmental communication, and maintaining institutional records.
Together, these functions ensure the smooth and effective running of the national Secretariat, allowing other specialised departments to focus on their distinct mandates in pastoral care, evangelisation, social outreach, and missionary work. The work of this unit aligns with standard organisational principles seen in ecclesial and non-profit secretariats, where administration serves as a critical support system for mission fulfilment.
