Mandate
The Directorate of Social Communications serves as the national communications arm of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN). It ensures that the voice of the Church is clear, consistent, and authoritative across all platforms, both within the Church and in public discourse. The Directorate plays a central role in fostering transparency, unity, and credibility in the Church’s communications.
Core Functions
- Media Coordination: Manages relationships with internal Church media and external outlets, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms, ensuring that messaging aligns with Catholic teaching and institutional policy.
- Official Publications: Oversees the production and dissemination of official communications from the Secretariat, such as news bulletins, pastoral letters, statements from the bishops, and CSN News updates.
- Public Representation: Articulates the public positions of the bishops and the Conference with clarity and professionalism, ensuring that the Church’s voice is well understood by the faithful and the wider Nigerian public.
- Digital and Social Media Management: Coordinates social media engagement, press statements, and information dissemination to support evangelisation, catechesis, and national dialogue on matters of faith and social interest.
Through these activities, the Directorate ensures that the Church’s perspectives on spiritual, social, and national matters are communicated with integrity, professionalism, and pastoral sensitivity. It also contributes to upholding the Church’s moral authority and fostering informed engagement among Catholics and society at large.
